Biography
Mariam Al-Dhubhani is a Yemeni-Russian award-winning journalist, filmmaker, and curator. Al-Dhubhani is currently doing an MA in Museum and Gallery Practice at UCL Qatar. She first pursued her passion for media during the 2011 Arab uprisings and co-founded her first media production. Al-Dhubhani’s films have been screened globally in festivals such as Carthage, Interfilm, and Oaxaca. She also utilizes Virtual Reality in highlighting stories from Yemen.
مريم الذبحاني صحفية وصانعة أفلام مستقلة. حاليا تقوم بتحضير الماجستير في تطبيقات المتاحف والمعارض في كلية لندن الجامعية. أعمالها متركزة على اليمن حيث تحاول من خلالها تغيير نظرة العالم المحدودة لليمن واليمنيين المحصورة فيما يروه على شريط الأخبار من موت وجوع وكوليرا في محاولة لإعادة المساواة في التعامل بكرامة مع الإنسان اليمني وإزالة حاجز العزل حول اليمن. أخرجت الذبحاني مؤخرا ثلاثة أفلام وثائقية قصيرة منها فيلم بتقنية ٣٦٠ درجة، وفي صدد التحضير لأفلام وثائقية وروائية طويلة. عرضت أفلامها في عدة مهرجانات دولية في ألمانيا وأمريكا والمكسيك وغيرها من الدول وحازت على جوائز متعددة.

- Just Another Memory a personal short documentary made with Doha Film Institute produced by Oscar-nominated director Rithy Panh: winner of Ajyal Film Festival for Best Documentary, 2018, and in NU-Q’s Media and Research Awards for Best Funded Moving Image, 2019. The documentary had its international premiere at AmDocs academy awards qualifying festival in Palm Springs, California, 2019.
- In The Middle, a short documentary filmed in Yemen following, Ali, a young soldier working in a checkpoint in Aden.
Winner of Ajyal Film Festival 2019 best short documentary.
- Old Sana'a City: Samsarat Al-Nuhas a short 360 documentary filmed in Yemen following a Yemeni jeweler in the mystical Old Sana’a City and the impact the current war made on this historical place.
